EXCLUSIVE: Sudhir Mishra REVEALS why Naseeruddin Shah & Ratna Pathak Shah left their home for him

Sudhir Mishra is a renowned Indian filmmaker and screenwriter known for his thought-provoking storytelling and socially relevant cinema. With a career spanning over four decades, he has directed critically acclaimed films such as ‘Hazaaron’ ‘Khwaishein Aisi’, ‘Dharavi’, and ‘Chameli’. Mishra is recognized for his unconventional narratives, strong character development, and his ability to blend realism with engaging storytelling. His contributions to Indian cinema have earned him multiple awards and a reputation as one of the industry’s most influential filmmakers. 

Sudhir Mishra recalls first memories with Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah 

While sharing about Nasseruddin Shah he said, “Ek haad hi log hai jisse milkar tadam badam ho jata hai”. Is what Sudhir Mishra said about Naseeruddin Shah in the beginning. His first encounter with Naseeruddin Shah he said, “Mujhe abhi bhi yaad hai, jab mai 20 saal ka tha aur NSD (National School of Drama) me sadak pe play kar raha tha aur Naseeruddin koi film ki shooting ke liye aaye the aur mai unse ek sec ke liye mila tha”. During the filming of Sazaye Maut, Sudhir said, “Sayaze Maut ke shooting me Nasser ne bohot pyaar diya”.  

Beyond the stage, Sudhir recalls the generosity shown by Shah and his wife, Ratna Pathak Shah, during a pivotal time in his life, he said, “Itne acche log the ki jab meri nayi nayi shaadi hui thi tab Nasser ne apna ghar chod diya tha taaki mai reh saaku. Aise ab log hi nahi hai”. This gesture, he says, was a true testament to the warmth and friendship that defines the film and theatre fraternity. 

While shooting at Nasser’s house he recalls, “Jab unke ghar pe shooting kar rahe the toh koi neighbour aitraaz raha tha toh ek minute yaha aur dusre minute waha neighbour ko bhaga rahe the”. He further shared that, “Naseer ke wajah se films bani hai! Unhone apna paisa choda hai”. 

On the work front, Sudhir Mishra’s latest work is the 2023 film Afwaah. He also directed the TV series Tanaav from 2022–2024 

On the other hand, Naseeruddin Shah will be soon seen in a short film Man & Krrish 4, to be released in 2026. While, Ratna Pathak Shah appeared in Dhak Dhak released in 2023, and the Kutch Express released in 2023.
